Hidden Gems of the Amazon

Kaisaniemi Botanic Garden, Helsinki, Finland

05.09.2023 - 27.10.2023

In the Hidden Gems of the Amazon exhibition I present a small sample of the incredible biodiversity of the Amazon rainforest. The focus lies on the often-overlooked world of reptiles, amphibians and other small animals that do the best they can to remain unseen in the vast jungle. Lesser-known rainforest inhabitants, such as the elusive Southern American bushmaster (Lachesis muta) or the many colourful poison frogs that call the Amazon home.

This exhibition presents a selection of photographs taken over four weeks of travel in the regions of Loreto and San Martín in Perú and Pará and Amapá in the Brazilian Amazon. Due to some of the species having restricted habitats, their search required the knowledge of local experts guiding expeditions deep into the forest. It's important to note that many of the species pictured face pressure from ongoing deforestation in the region.

Fine art prints of the exhibition photos are available for sale. With your purchase you'll be contributing directly to conservation. 20€ of every sale will be donated to the organisation Plant for Future to support them in their mission to protect remaining patches of primary forest in the Amazon and plant native trees in areas that have already suffered from deforestation.

The price for a 20x30cm print is 60€, including shipping anywhere. All photos are printed on premium quality and sustainable Hahnemühle Nature Line paper to guarantee durability.

I would like to thank LUOMUS (Finnish Museum of Natural History) for providing me with the opportunity to showcase my work in such a beautiful space, surrounded by an incredible collection of plants from around the world. Also, special thanks to my guides and friends who shared their extensive knowledge of the species and the region during our journeys: Angel Chujutalli, Jhon Armas, Rafael Guadeluppe, Rodrigo Tavares, Patrick Sanches, Andrés Novales, Alejandro Estrada, and René Villanueva Maldonado. Not to mention the hospitality of the families living in these forests, who welcomed me and helped me along the way, thank you all!
